Katie Wells lives and works in Margate, England.
Her abstract paintings combine gestural paint-pouring with hand-stitched embroidery, culminating in a style that is free and expressionistic on the one hand, but measured and meticulous on the other.
Throughout all her work is the suggestion of botanical influence. Some pieces are obvious in their inspiration from plant forms, directly painted from shadows of branches, whereas others are more abstract – a dash of paint only hinting at a leaf or petal.
Katie’s work explores the organic forms and textures of the natural world, but also the sense of calm and contemplation brought about by being connected with nature. It is the assured, inner calm of these centred moments in nature that Katie offers to the viewer of her art.
